Sometimes I make documentary images, but often I employ interpretive or impressionistic techniques when a literal rendering seems insufficient to express what I\u2019m feeling. In either case my approach is always a very personal one. When some part of the natural world functions as a symbol, or as a metaphor, or as a vehicle for my emotional life and, in the deeper sense, my spiritual life, I endeavor to show it in the images I make. And I\u2019m often conscious of my deeply held belief that every photograph is the description of a meeting between the subject matter and the photographer, and that the role of the one is not necessarily more significant that of the other.<\/p>\n
